I felt taller. Josh thought I was crazy. We measured. I grew a quarter of an inch - I am a true 5'-7". Truth be told for years I've been rounding up from 5'-6 3/4" all these years.

whole lotta love
As I drive home from work, Figglet and I have some time alone together in the car. I blast the music, dance around in my seat and sing to him - just to make him happy (umm - totally turning into my mom here). Today, the B-52's Love Shack came on the radio - shrieking I exclaimed to Figglet "This is mommy's favorite song" - then proceeded to sing along and change the words to "Figglet... Baby Figglet!".
However - no movement.
I switch stations to classic rock - and when "Stairway to Heaven" (oy) comes on - the kid goes nuts. He LOVES classic rock!
Oh, he's too much!
How can I love someone so much that I've never even seen? I just think he's the cutest and funniest child ever - already! Loving Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd - who does he think he is - crazy baby...

24-weeks
It's been a while since the last blog post:
it's hard to believe that we are already at 24-weeks. According to that web site that emails me weekly, I have 110 days to go!
Figglet is a wiggler, he's most active in the morning when I wake up and after coffee (surprised this is Josh's child - a lover of caffeine in the womb), after I eat fruit, and when I listen to music with a heavy base.
Still craving fruit - just different ones now:
Sunday:
Prenatal yoga
Monday:
Checking out the Temple daycare.
(Already on the waiting list for Vandy, but that could be up to a year!)
Next Monday:
Blood sugar test & midwife appointment
On-going things that just haven't been done:

pregnancy cravings
the day you were all waiting for - I was craving meatballs
and yes - I ate meat*
That was probably my first meatball in over 5 years. When I was eating meat, I can't remember the last meatball I ate. All I wanted was like that spicy, Italian seasoned, kind of grainy yummy meatball. So weird!
*(prosciutto doesn't count as meat to vegetarians, right???)

home sick
Just wanted to share that I'm home sick with a cold. Woke up and my throat felt like it was on fire. Now, not to sound totally crazy, but I really thought that with the amount of good things that are in those prenatal vitamins that a pregnant woman taking those could never get a cold. Josh assures me that they can, and that I'm crazy.

11-weeks
Conversation at the beginning of yoga class on Thursday:
Laura (teacher): "How are you feeling, how's the pregnancy?"
Ash: "Feeling good - but starting to think I'm showing"
(now, let me remind you this same woman has seen me in tight yoga pants and fitted tshirts almost every week for the past 1-1/2 + years)
Laura: "Yes, you are showing. If I saw you on the street I'd definitely think you were pregnant, but I wouldn't ask, I'd just think something was up."

9-weeks
I feel like the pregnancy really "kicked in" last night... lets say between 10:30pm and 3:30am.
The phone call with the midwife went something like this:
Josh: "She's be throwing-up for 3-hours straight!!"
Midwife: "This is very normal." (I'm sure at 1am the phone call she really wants is a 9-week pregnant patient who is throwing-up)
Josh: "But there's no way, she just won't stop, should we take her to the hospital???"
Midwife: "Your wife is pregnant, she's going to throw-up."
Josh: "But, but, but...."
Midwife: "She's pregnant."
I totally jinxed this - I was bragging to my mom on the phone yesterday how I haven't thrown-up once this whole time.

7-weeks
No difference,
however one can see that this tank top is a little more snug than it was 7-weeks ago.
so this is what you don't see.

the obsessive googling begins
emails dated: June 28, 2008:
DD -
I'm reading on-line that if we are even thinking about having a baby I should start taking prenatal vitamins. Did you do that? What should I look for when buying them? From what I've read, you can get them by prescription or over-the-counter. Is there a difference? Is one brand better than the other? I've found some web pages with stats of what you should be looking for - but nothing consistent.
thanks!

Hi there,
Prenatal vitamins are a good idea -- I think they all contain folic acid (which is key). Any kind is ok. You can get them over the counter at any drug store. No real difference as far as I know, but some people have told me that certain kinds make them nauseaus, and some don't. I didn't have that problem though.
No worries, this is an easy one!!
